Here’s 5 images I’ve cobbled together as ‘cover’ for Dark Moon. 4 are just variants on the same 1 though. Let me know which one you would use, or if you don’t want any to be used. Thanks chaps.
I’ve done four mixes of Dark Moon with the material we recorded: Legacy, New Moon, Squelchy, and Ritual. They’re in the TeamDrive space at the moment. Could you guys give them a listen and let me know what you think?
I warmed up the Moog today because I wanted to use it on something else I’m working on at the moment so I thought I’d add a Moog part to Dark Moon. There’s some nice bits in it, and a lot of absolute crap. The Moog is a little troublesome to use because it’s completely analogue and has terrible tuning drift, and it could use a little TLC – most of the controls crackle and if the control is related to pitch? that’s the tuning gone again. The most difficult bit though is trying to play not-glissando so the monophonic synth doesn’t lose the attacks of all the notes, that threw me as a not proper keyboard player so the takes I did have a fair bit of me just hitting the keyboard in frustration. Please don’t put out a render with the Moog on it until I’ve done some tidying up!
Simon has added vocals now, so we have all the source material for the legacy version, and at least one other mix. I think He & I are both likely to add a bit more before we’re done.
Simon has done a vocal track, so we have everything we need to mix the legacy version of Dark Moon – and probably a couple of other mixes too. We have a couple of weeks in hand, so we’ll hopefully get even more layers in there – throw everything at it. Simon said a few days ago that we used to take a simple song and throw a shed-load of effects at it and that was where the power of our sound came from, now we have the ability to stick more and more layers to it. (Back in the day we had a four track cassette, now we have all sorts of digital stuff). So, being just a mixdown short of achieving what we set out to achieve give us time to play around and see what other wonderful noise we can make. I’ve already layed down a rice egg track.
Pete got back in to the country and sent over some bass lines. The track is sounding pretty good now.
(SoundCloud seems to have added some crackles to the recording, this might be a problem with uploading as ADPCM Wav files)
After hearing Simon’s new parts for Dark Moon I decided I could be getting on with some extra tracks too and put down the tremolo and wahwah guitar tracks, fully expecting to edit most of it out again. Still no Pete though.
